Well done room one students. About half of you managed to get online and comment on our blog homework. When did Gabriel Read discover gold and was it him who discovered it first? I'm hoping to see everyone else's research in their homework books.
You can see from what people found that there can be quite a difference between different books, internet sites etc. Which is likely to be the most reliable and true I wonder?
It seems the general agreement is that Gabriel found gold in May 1861 near the Tuapeka river, near Lawrence in Central Otago and thousands of people rushed to find gold for themselves. This would have bought a lot of people and industry into the district.
Keep up the good work and remember the importance of 'triangular' research and referencing.

When was gold discovered in Otago?
How reliable are our reference books and the internet? Do we just trust that the information we find is correct? The triangle method is a good idea when we are researching. Check in three places (3 points of a triangle) if the information is the same in all 3 places it is more than likely correct. This is some information I found about when gold was discovered in Otago by Gabriel Read. I found it in Awesome Aotearoa, by Margaret Mahy. Is this information correct and accurate? Can you prove it? there are stars and week off homework stickers available for good research and answers.

Into week 2 already..
Hi folks, great to see you have found our class blog page. We are into week 2 already and room one seems to be coming together quite nicely. I am impressed with the manners and positive attitudes of all of the room one students.
Homework has been issued again today. The students have spelling, maths and 'identity' work to complete by Friday. Hopefully those homework sheets have made their way out of the bottom of school bags.
We had a great first swimming session today and will be off to the pool again on Monday morning next week.
A reminder that the meet the teacher evening is this Wednesday 10th Feb. All parents meet in the school hall at 7pm, and then move to the classrooms shortly after that.
We start whole class marimba lessons tomorrow, check back here soon for some pictures and updates on how it went.
Remember just send me an email, call school or come in and see me if there is anything I can help you with
